Energy Psychology is an emerging field of mind-body approaches for healing and wellness, integrating ancient Eastern practices such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, with more current Western practices, such as cognitive psychology. There are many techniques that fall under the umbrella of energy psychology. The primary tools I use are EFT and breathing practices. You can also read more about Energy Psychology here.
Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)
Commonly called ‘Tapping’, EFT has been described as “acupressure for emotions”. Stressful and traumatic emotions and experiences are registered in the body as well as the mind. EFT combines elements of cognitive psychology (the talking part of the technique) with physical tapping on acupressure points to release, process and reframe difficult thoughts and emotions and calm the nervous system. It can be a great tool for stress relief, managing anxiety, self acceptance and self-soothing.
Breathing Practices
The breath is a rapid and highly effective way to tune in and to shift one’s state of being (mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually), and people have been using intentional breathing practices for this purpose for thousands of years. I teach Coherent Breathing for nervous system balance, and a variety of other breathing techniques for both calming and energizing one’s whole self.
